EVA rubber and polyurethane sole: why this system works

EVA rubber is the commercial name for ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, in this case foamed in a closed-cell structure. It provides what an upper needs in wet settings: very low weight, minimal water absorption and a non-fibrous surface that does not hold on to salt or sand. Unlike a leather upper, which can dry out with salt, or a woven textile upper, which takes longer to dry, EVA releases water and sand with a simple rinse.

Underneath, there is a polyurethane (PU) sole. This is a material the footwear industry has used for decades in midsoles and outsoles because it combines lightness, cushioning, abrasion resistance and good walking performance. The division of roles is clear: lightness and easy cleaning on top; walking comfort underneath.

How to care for them so they last

• Rinse with fresh water after any use in the sea, pool or on the beach.
• If traces of salt, chlorine, sun cream or dirt remain, wash by hand with neutral soap and a soft brush.
• Dry in the shade with good ventilation. Avoid radiators, tumble dryers and leaving them in the car under the sun: extreme heat accelerates the ageing of the material.
• Store completely dry and away from prolonged sun exposure.
• Check the sole tread and the upper-sole joint from time to time: when the relief becomes rounded, grip changes.

What we promise and what we do not

We speak plainly. We do promise lightness, quick drying, easy cleaning and footwear prepared for the beach-pool-boat-countryside context. We will not tell you they are waterproof —an open avarca-style sandal is not sealed footwear—, and we will not guarantee absolute grip on every wet deck: grip depends on the compound, the tread and wear, and that is only validated through use. We will not sell them as antibacterial either. If you rinse them and dry them well, they stay fresh: that is the real advantage, without added chemistry.
