What is EVA rubber and why does it work in a Menorcan sandal?

EVA rubber is the commercial name for ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, foamed in a closed-cell structure. It offers three advantages that are decisive in this product: very low weight, minimal water absorption and a non-fibrous surface that cleans with a damp cloth and neutral soap. Unlike leather, which can stain and dry out with salt, and unlike textile, which holds on to moisture and sand, EVA releases water and sand with a simple rinse.

Underneath, there is a polyurethane (PU) sole. PU is a material the footwear industry has used for decades in midsoles and outsoles: it provides cushioning, abrasion resistance and a stable step. The division of roles is clear: lightness and washability on top; comfort and durability underneath.

For those days when you go from the quay to the deck, from the deck to the harbour and from the harbour to a terrace. They rinse clean with fresh water, do not take on salt like leather footwear and weigh very little in your handbag when you are carrying another pair for the evening.

And one detail that really matters when you step onto a boat: the sole is non-marking, meaning it does not leave marks on deck. This is a basic requirement for nautical footwear — a sole that marks will leave dark streaks on teak, gelcoat or other smooth surfaces — and we have verified it internally on this line before launch.

Pool

Designed for getting in and out of the water without fuss. The non-porous EVA surface rinses quickly after chlorine and dries in the shade before you have finished your coffee. A pool-ready Menorcan sandal with an avarca-style silhouette, not just another flip-flop.

For the country house, the outdoor table, the sprinkler that catches you by surprise or the dirt path to the cool corner of the garden. They clean with a cloth and a little neutral soap: EVA handles grass or mud marks much better than a leather upper.

How to care for them so they last

• Rinse with fresh water after the sea, pool or sand.
• If traces of salt, sun cream, chlorine or dirt remain, wash by hand with neutral soap and a soft brush.
• Dry them in the shade with good ventilation. No radiators, tumble dryers or closed cars in the sun: extreme heat damages the material.
• Store them completely dry and away from prolonged direct sunlight.
• Check the sole tread from time to time: when the relief becomes rounded, the real grip changes.

What we promise and what we do not

An honest note. We do promise real lightness, quick drying, easy cleaning and footwear prepared for wet summer use. We do not promise that they are waterproof — an open sandal is not a sealed shoe — and we will not guarantee absolute grip on every wet floor: grip depends on the tread, the compound and wear, and is proven through use, not slogans. We also do not call them antibacterial. If you rinse them and dry them well, they stay fresh, and that is what truly matters.
